Not too many details yet — I suspect once he’s feeling better we’ll get a blog post on the whole affair from the man himself — but Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert was hospitalized earlier after fracturing his hip. The news was first announced by Ebert’s wife Chaz via her Twitter feed, where she also included a joke with the message, suggesting the injury isn’t too serious. Still this is a film critic’s busiest time of year, with top ten list fever and awards ballots galore, so hopefully Ebert isn’t out of action for too long and back to work soon.
At the very least, he didn’t waste any time getting back on his computer; Ebert’s already tweeted one update about his health and a link to a new review (for the horror film “Citadel,” if you’re curious), which is definitely a good sign. Here was Chaz Ebert’s first tweet:
Roger in hospital with hip fracture (tricky disco dance moves) but he is doing well, asking for computer, will probably tweet.

The woman knows her husband; sure enough about five hours later, Ebert let his followers know how he was doing.
Yes, fracture. But no surgery needed. Details follow. :)

Best wishes to Roger on a speedy, disco-filled recovery.
