Sophie Barthes’ ‘Madame Bovary’ Picked Up By Millennium Entertainment

“Cold Souls” director Sophie Barthes has had her sophomore feature, an adaptation of the Gustave Flaubert classic novel, “Madame Bovary,” picked up by Millennium Entertainment for distribution throughout the United States.

Mia Wasikowska stars as Emma, a bold young woman with big dreams. Raised on a pig farm, Emma dreams of living luxuriously — which is how she decides to marry Charles Bovary, played by Henry Lloyd Hughes (“Anna Karenina”). When her marriage fails to fulfill her desires, however, Emma attempts to escape via a series of torrid extramarital affairs and excessive spending. Ezra Miller (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) and Logan Marshall-Green (“Prometheus”) co-star as two of Emma’s lovers. Paul Giamatti appears in the villainous role of the pharmacist Monsieur Homais.

“Madame Bovary” premiered at Telluride and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
