Early Steve Buscemi Film ‘Tommy’s’ Unearthed During Film Preservation Kickstarter Campaign
Last month, we shared the news that IndieCollect, an organization dedicated to improving access to the full history of independent film, had started a crowdfunding campaign to help save a handful of early Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon films. News from the campaign intensified two weeks ago when one of those Vachon titles, 1984’s “A Man in Your Room” was found as part of the campaign’s early efforts.
The latest twist in this preservation saga features a heavy dose of Steve Buscemi, courtesy of director Barry Ellsworth. IndieCollect announced yesterday that Ellsworth recently discovered a print of “Tommy’s” an early short film of his starring a 27-year-old Buscemi. This latest addition now brings the total number of targeted films in the preservation effort to ten.
At this point, the campaign has passed its halfway mark, both in funds raised (just over $24,000) and time elapsed, now with less than two weeks remaining. If completely funded, IndieCollect aims to use a brand-new Kinetta scanner to convert the 80s and 90s early-career Haynes/Vachon/Ellsworth work for archival purposes.

Fundraising will officially close at 11 am PST/2 pm EST on Wednesday, July 27.
