The 24th annual festival was scheduled for December 6, but it will be cancelled this year due to lack of money. “It is too early to tell what has actually happened here, although it is hard to avoid concluding that there has been a terrible and irresponsible mismanagement of Tropfest funds,” Polson explained.
A discrepancy of up to six figures has been discovered, and the issues have been tracked to a management company hired to sort out the festival’s finances. “My heart goes out to this years 16 filmmaking finalists, to our incredible list of sponsors and partners, and of course to our loyal and beloved audience,” Polson said.
The festival is seeking legal action against the management company.
