It’s quite a week for fans of Stephen King’s bestselling “The Dark Tower” series. In the lead up to film adaptation’s Comic-Con appearance, two official images of stars Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba debuted yesterday, and now Entertainment Weekly is back today to provide even more first look photos.

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, “The Dark Tower” stars Elba as the heroic, revolver-weilding Roland Deschain and McConaughey as the evil Walter Padick, an ageless sorcerer who wants to find the film’s eponymous tower so that he may rule over the world’s infinite kingdoms. Additional cast members include Fran Kranz as Pimli, Padick’s right hand man, and Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick and Tom Taylor. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer serve as producers.

The new photos pretty much confirm that the film will have the kind of large-scale ambition the story needs. The images of Mid-World, which the magazine describes as a “a solitary speck on the horizon of an endless desert,” are particularly epic. Elsewhere, McConaughey can be seen brooding, Elba can be seen as a total badass, and Arcel can be seen directing in front of a green screen.

Most importantly, the new photos introduce Tom Taylor’s Jake Chambers, our point-of-entry character into this world of magic and sorcerers. Chambers is a young boy from New York City who experiences visions and nightmares of the eponymous tower, shifting faces and more. These will no doubt lead him on a collision course with Deschain. Check out all the photos here.

“The Dark Tower” arrives in theaters on February 17, 2017.
