The Coen Brothers have left quite a legacy for filmmakers to follow. The sibling duo have etched themselves into history as great American directors, providing consistently great characters, narratives, and dialogue. Combining absurd comedy and violent drama, the Coen Brothers’ influence has stretched out far and wide, coming to rest on the shoulders of the newer generation of filmmakers, like relative newcomer Miles Doleac.
In his second feature film, writer/director Doleac tackles the world of rural Mississippi, creating a diegetic world that harks back the days of ’50s noir. When the daughter of a US congressman is killed as she’s passing through a small backroad town, a legion of hard-as-nails FBI agents descend upon the town to solve the tragic murder. But as the jagged pieces start coming together, a myriad of characters begin coming out of the woodwork, making this mystery as brow-beating and hazy as the Mississippi swamp that the FBI agents find themselves in. With a stellar cast including James Callis (“Battlestar Galactica”), Jeff Fahey (“Lost”), Christiane Seidel (“Boardwalk Empire”) and William Sadler (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Doleac has set himself up for making his most compelling film yet.
The film is being produced by Historia Films, while Uncork’d Entertainment is set to distribute. Check out Indiewire’s exclusive trailer above before checking out the flick on later this year.
