The Orchard Acquires TIFF Horror Film ‘Demon’

The Orchard has acquired North American distribution rights to “Demon,” the Polish horror film from the late director Marcin Wrona. Wrona, who served as a director, producer and co-writer on “Demon,” tragically passed away at 42 one week after the film had its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival in the Vanguard Section.

“Demon” follows the story of a young couple who receive a piece of land as a wedding gift to build a house and raise a family. However, while preparing to build the house, the groom discovers human bones buried beneath the house, setting off a chain of haunting events that recall the famous figure of Jewish folklore, the dybbuk, a spirit of a person not properly laid to rest.

“‘Demon’ is its own unique monster of sorts – moody and creepy, yet with an underlying satirical side that resonated with us,” said Paul Davidson, The Orchard’s SVP, Film and TV. “Marcin delivered a wonderfully original film and we hope to honor his memory with its release.”

With their latest acquisition of “Demon,” The Orchard looks to keep up their recent hit streak, which has included releases of “Nasty Baby,” “The Overnight,” “Cartel Land” and “Digging for Fire” earlier this year. The Orchard plans to release “Demon” in 2016.
