Number one on my personal list of “Festivals I’ve Never Attended (But Want To)” is the Telluride Film Festival. In a new blog post on /Film, Peter Sciretta has a nice rundown of all the reasons why: a beautiful setting in the mountains of Colorado, a great lineup of movies, the unofficial kickoff of Oscar season, and the fact that Telluride doesn’t announce their schedule until the first day of the festival, which weeds out all but the most die-hard cinephiles. You don’t know what you’re seeing until you arrive in Telluride, so going to the festival — schlepping up into the middle of nowhere, spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on travel, lodging, and passes — is an act of faith, in the both festival itself and in the power of movies in general. There’s something beautiful about that.

Telluride’s lineup is always full of premieres and high profile surprise screenings — 2012 kicks off with an unannounced screening of Ben Affleck’s “Argo” — but because it’s so hard to get to, so expensive, and so inconveniently timed for anyone who wants to spend their Labor Day not laboring, Telluride coverage is often in relatively short supply. With that in mind, we’ve put together this list of critics, journalists, bloggers, and programmers who are on the ground in Colorado, ready to keep you informed about all the latest Telluride news and surprises. Hopefully next year I’ll be able to revise this list with my own name on it. Until then, keep your eyes on the Twitter feeds of:
