THR reports that Tyler Perry is set to produce the Apartheid drama “The Year of the Great Storm” through his personal production company, 34th Street Films.
The film’s script centers on an Apartheid-era murder and the horrifying consequences that followed. Per THR, “The drama will tell the story of Amy Biehl, an American Fulbright scholar who was living in Apartheid-era South Africa when she was stabbed to death, and her parents who sat through the murder trial and eventually supported their daughter’s killers’ application to South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”
The script was written by Johanna Baldwin, and Student Academy Award winner Karzan Kader is slated to direct the murder drama. Ozzie Areu, Matt Moore, Russ Stratton, Johanna Baldwin of Air Extreme Films will produced alongside Perry. Doug Liman and George C. Wolfe will executive produce.
