Since its premiere earlier this summer, Ridley Scott’s polarizing “Prometheus” has provided the sort of much-needed discussion that is sorely missed during the blockbuster season, and despite a lot of the vitriol launched against the film, its impending home video release is garnering a lot of excitement. Much of that excitement is due to Scott’s precedence of providing a different experience on home video than the theatrical versions (see: the Director’s Cut of “Kingdom Of Heaven”). Although there won’t be a director’s cut of “Prometheus,” the Blu-ray release will feature some deleted and extended scenes, two of which you can see one below.
One of the most ambiguous scenes of the film comes at the climax where — SPOILER! — Weyland, through android David, makes contact with an Engineer. In the theatrical cut of the film, the Engineer stays silent after David speaks to him then proceeds to beat the elderly Weyland to death with David’s head. However, in a deleted scene (via Comicbookmovie) from the Blu-ray, we actually get to hear the Engineer speak and, well, it’s actually kind of underwhelming. This is one of the aspects of the film that works better with the mystery. Also, Janek (Idris Elba) gets a bit more back story in a another scene via CBM in a few more moments with Vickers (Charlize Theron).
Meanwhile, though most films officially release their scores, they rarely ever release the totality of the music created for the film — those type of complete releases are reserved for legacy films. To that end, some enterprising individual (via Prometheus News) has found a track that wasn’t included on the official soundtrack release. The untitled cue, sounding like an alternate mix of “Too Close” with choral and percussive elements, is used during the scene where Shaw (Noomi Rapace) ventures out into a storm to retrieve the decapitated head of an Engineer.
You’ll be able to see (and hear) all the extra material when “Prometheus” lands on Blu-ray next month on October 11th. But in the meantime, check out the track and clip below.
