Samuel Goldwyn Films has released a brand new trailer for William H. Macy’s feature directorial debut, “Rudderless,” which premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
“Rudderless” is a story of redemption and recovery. The film centers on Sam, a high-profile advertising executive played by Billy Crudup. After his son is killed during a school shooting, Sam becomes consumed by grief — he leaves his job, drinks more than he should and he moves onto a dingy sailboat. When Sam happens upon a box filled with his son’s demo tapes and lyrics, he is astounded to discover a side of his son that he never knew about. Sam listens to the tapes and learn’s to perform the songs, eventually mustering the courage to perform them in front of an audience at a bar. A young musician named Quentin, played by Anton Yelchin, happens to be in the audience and after the performance approaches Sam about forming a band.
What happens next? You’ll have to see the film to find out! Based on the trailer below, though, it looks like only good things are in store for Sam once the music gets going.
“Rudderless” opens in theaters and on VOD October 17.
