Up until now we’ve only been treated to international trailers and teasers for David Cronenberg’s latest “Cosmopolis,” starring “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson. Now with the August 17 theatrical release date looming, a U.S. trailer has premiered to give a clearer look at what to expect.
“Cosmopolis,” which co-stars Paul Giamatti, Sarah Gadon, Juliette Binoche, Mathieu Amalric and Kevin Duran, is based on Don DeLillo novel, and centers on a Wall Street tycoon (Pattinson) whose world begins to collapse as the stock market crashes during a long limo ride across Manhattan.
Upon premiering in Cannes earlier this year, the thriller received mostly mixed reviews. Our own Eric Kohn wrote: “Pattinson holds his own without exactly broadening his range. By simply taking the part, his presence has the dissonance of a James Franco performance act, at once thoroughly underwhelming and emboldened by the meta mystery of his attraction to the project. As a journalist at the movie’s Cannes press conference pointed out, while not a literal vampire, Packer is certainly a blood-sucking capitalist.”
