A24 has released a trailer for “Revenge of the Green Dragons,” a crime thriller that billed “in the vein of crime classics ‘Mean Streets’ and ‘Infernal Affairs.'”
Co-directed by “Infernal Affairs” director Andrew Lau and newcomer Andrew Loo, “Revenge of the Green Dragons” is based on a New Yorker article that examines Asian-American gang life in New York City during the 80s and 90s. Martin Scorsese, who serves as an executive producer on the film, previously adapted Lau’s “Infernal Affairs” into “The Departed,” which ended up finally winning him the Oscar for Best Director.
Justin Chon and Kevin Wu co-star, in their first major leading roles, as two immigrant brothers who join up with a violent Chinatown gang during their youth. Over the years, as they rise up the ranks, they eventually end up turning against each other. Meanwhile, in a change of pace for the actor, gangster film icon Ray Liotta plays a cop pursuing the gang.
“Revenge of the Green Dragons” is slated to screen in the Special Presentation section at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. A release date has yet to be set. Check out the trailer below:
