The Academy Award nominees were finally announced yesterday to much fervor and excitement, with a grand total of eight nominees coming in for the Best Picture category. “I know you’re busy people who don’t have time to see all eight movies,” admitted Colbert, leading the Second City alum to so generously (and hilariously) summarize the synopsis of each lauded film in a two-minute clip on last night’s “The Late Show.”
Colbert proclaimed he would be playing all the parts, which he defended by jokingly noting that all the acting nominees were white (which has happened for a second year in a row now). As The Late Show host kicked off the impressions, starting with “The Revenant” before moving onto others like “The Martian” and “Brooklyn,” the improv master couldn’t help at chuckle at his own ridiculousness as he chewed a raw potato and joked about Leonardo DiCaprio’s (desperate) lack of an Oscar.
More Oscar-related skits and bits are more than likely to trickle in from Colbert as the countdown to the big day begins. Be sure to catch up on the nominees on the Oscars website before tuning into the award ceremony on February 28.
