If the thought of writer-director Shane Carruth and actress Amy Seimetz reuniting scares you a little bit — their last collaboration, “Upstream Color,” was one of the most densely challenging sci-fi movies of the last decade — you can rest easy, as their SXSW-nominated short film “We’ll Find Something” has finally hit Vimeo in all its romantically accessible glory.
A far cry from the puzzling pigs and orchards of their last acclaimed project, “We’ll Find Something” is a 12-minute romantic drama about a couple wandering the streets of New York City as they struggle to find the right place to eat. It’s perhaps the simplest of storylines when compared to “Upstream Color,” though Carruth and Seimetz’s expert chemistry is once again at the forefront, and the duo quietly express their characters’ frustrations and history as their search for a restaurant takes tedious turns. The short is directed and written by Casey Gooden, who worked with the pair on “Upstream Color.”
Carruth is currently in pre-production on his upcoming adaptation of the naval drama “The Modern Ocean,” which is set to star Jeff Goldblum, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Radcliffe, Anne Hathaway, Chloe Grace Moretz and Asa Butterfield, among others. Watch the short film below.
