READ MORE: Why Wes Craven Mattered to Horror Fans
Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to Nick Simon’s horror crime thriller “The Girl in the Photographs,” starring Kal Penn, Claudia Lee, Kenny Wormald, Toby Hemingway, Luke Baines and Mitch Pileggi. The film was executive produced by Nawaf Alghanim and Wes Craven as his last credit before he passed this summer. The deal comes a couple months after the film premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
“The Girl in the Photographs” centers around a celebrity photographer and his entourage as they descend upon a sleepy community to investigate the bloody doings of a serial killer.
“Nick Simon’s story is really everything you would want in a classic Wes Craven film,” said Mitch Budin, co-president at Vertical. “We are thrilled to be in business with Nick and the rest of the filmmaking team to bring their vision for an old school horror film to audiences.”
“Sometimes you read a script and you just know,” Craven said in a statement back in 2014 during the film’s production. “From first draft to final cut, Nick has told a unique story that will leave you wondering: is it always good to be noticed? It has been a pleasure to work with Nick from his days in my WGA mentor group to picture lock. You’ll be hearing from him again.”
Vertical is planning a 2016 theatrical release. Highland Film Group is currently selling international territories at the American Film Market.
