Wesley Morris Leaves Boston Globe

Announced via tweet from ESPN’s Bill Simmons, and confirmed with a post on JimRomenesko.com, comes word that film critic Wesley Morris is leaving his position at the Boston Globe to join Simmons’ Grantland.com full-time (he’s contributed occasional features and columns to the site since 2011). Morris was at the Globe for ten years; last April, he won a Pulitzer Prize for criticism for his work at the paper.

Via Romenesko, here’s the end of Globe features editor Doug Most’s memo on Morris’ departure: 

“His Pulitzer was merely a capstone to a remarkable decade-long run with the Globe. He writes three, four, and sometimes five movie reviews in a week, in addition to longer essays or features for our Sunday Movies section. He has written for Ideas, for the magazine, for Books, and for Food, covering new restaurants in our fondly remembered column Sauce. Wesley is leaving us after 10 years to write for Grantland, where he has had a column on style in the sports world and will write on film and other cultural subjects. We will miss his writing dearly. We will miss him even more. His last day at the Globe is January 11.”

Morris’ last day may not be until next Friday, but he already has a new piece on Grantland this week, a column of Oscar predictions. Wherever he’s writing, he’ll be worth reading.
