But if only part of it slipped your mind, recall Pete Campbell’s oblivious attempt to defend Peggy’s professional skills: “She’s every bit good as any woman in the business” — which, 306 years after the fact, pointedly recalls Samuel Johnson’s comments about women in the pulpit: “Sir, a woman’s preaching is like a dog’s walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all.”
