The Lone Ranger: Who Should Ride with Johnny Depp? Armie Hammer or Timothy Olyphant? (UPDATED)

Thompson on Hollywood

Gore Verbinski’s 2014 Disney reboot of The Lone Ranger may put Johnny Depp in the saddle with the Winklevi, a.k.a Armie Hammer.

UPDATE 5/18: Hammer won the role, but Olyphant won our poll by a landslide:

Thompson on Hollywood

Hammer is in early talks to play the title character opposite Depp as Tonto. Ryan Gosling was rumored for the part but shot it down, and Timothy Olyphant is also in the mix. Hammer also has The Brothers Grimm: Snow White in pre-production, as the Prince alongside Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, and Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar in post. Prince? Yes. Clyde Tolson? Yes. Cowboy? We’re not so sure. Olyphant looks damned good in a cowboy hat (Deadwood, Justified). The Olyphant rumor may have no base, but let’s do some dreamcasting —vote below.
