It’s been 10 years since “Game of Thrones” debuted, and to celebrate, HBO and HBO Max announced a monthlong streaming extravaganza, which included the newly released trailer for the controversial eighth and final season.
Even though the hit fantasy series ended in 2019, “Game of Thrones” fans can catch up on old episodes in preparation for “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s prequel series based on George R.R. Martin’s book, “Fire & Blood.” The series tells the story of House Targaryen (the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and takes place 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” There’s no premiere date as of yet, but there are three more reported prequels in the works, which means that the timing is perfect for you to stock up on some merchandise inspired by the show. To give you a head start, we curated a list of the best gifts for “Game of Thrones” fans.
After the emotionally exhausting year of 2020, “Game of Thrones” offers up the kind of escapism that we all need from time to time — even for Martin, who lost five friends last year and still found the motivation to work on his next “Game of Thrones” novel, “The Winds of Winter.” In a blog post from February, Martin revealed that his goal for 2021 is to complete the novel.
“I wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of ‘The Winds of Winter’ in 2020. The best year I’ve had on ‘WOW’ since I began it. Why? I don’t know. Maybe the isolation. Or maybe I just got on a roll. Sometimes I get on a roll. I need to keep rolling though. I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion. That’s what 2021 is for, I hope. I will make no predictions on when I will finish. […] All I will say is that I am hopeful.”
One of the good things about quarantine is that it allowed dedicated “Game of Thrones” fans to relive the magical series, and a lot of new fans hopped on board thanks to HBO Max. Monthly subscribers can watch “Game of Thrones” on the platform for no extra charge. Not subscribed? No problem. It’s super easy to sign up, and you only have to pay $14.99 a month to get access to a massive film and TV library, plus new releases from Warner Bros. are available on the streaming network for the first month after they debut in theaters.
If you’re a fan of “Game of Thrones” or you know someone who can’t get enough of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms, this selection of merchandise inspired by the hit series runs the gamut in price and genre, from board games to books, cookware, and other “Game of Thrones” must-haves that you’ll want to grab. See our list below.
Because “Game of Thrones” was adapted from novels, this box set is an absolutely great gift for dedicated fans. The set features leather-bound editions of the first five novels: “A Game of Thrones,” “A Clash of Kings,” “A Storm of Swords,” “A Feast for Crows,” and “A Dance with Dragons Kindle Edition.” You can also get the book set without the gorgeous embossing for a cheaper price.
Since we’re already talking books, you might as well add one or more of these “GOT” Iron Throne bookends to your cart. You can buy them separately or in a set, and they’ll make a cool desk accessory.
Immerse yourself in the gorgeous photos from the series with “The Photography of Game of Thrones” from Helen Sloan, principle photographer on the series. The book features 850 incredible photos including candid shots, and never-before-seen photos of the cast and crew.
If you love board games (or know someone who does), Monopoly has a treat for you. Fans can travel to the land of Westeros where they can buy, sell, and trade locations from the Seven Kingdoms. The “GOT” Monopoly edition includes six Monopoly tokens, 28 Title Deed cards, and 32 Chance cards. Instead of houses and hotels, the game comes with 32 Holdfasts and 12 castles, in addition to 94 cardboard coins (42 gold dragons, 53 silver stags), an Iron Throne cardholder with a musical stand, dice, a game guide, and more.
What’s not to love about the Mother of Dragons? Turn your adult beverage into a “GOT” experience with customizable wine glasses paying homage to Targaryen. Each glass was professionally etched by hand from skilled artists. Wine glasses make a great gift for birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or any other occasion really. You can also get the glasses embossed with “Winter is Here” and other designs.
These candles are probably one of the coolest gift ideas on the list. Each candle is 4.5” high and 3.5” wide with intricate hand carved details that makes this three-pack of FOLE Game of Thrones Dragon Egg Candles look even more realistic. And since they’re already boxed up, you won’t have to do much to give them as a gift.
Streaming networks are awesome, but there’s nothing like owning physical copies of your favorite shows and films. This massive box set features all eight seasons of “GOT” which breaks down to 73 episodes, plus 15 hours of bonus content and never-before-scene footage.
The weather’s getting nicer and if you plan on throwing some food on the grill, the “Dinner is Coming” apron will get people talking. You can, of course, wear the apron anytime of the year (even during winter), for any cooking occasion, and if you want to make an even deeper statement, try out this engraved wooden cutting board.
