Baseball fans are gearing up for a real-life “Field of Dreams” experience. After more than two years of planning, and six years after the idea first came about, Major League Baseball will unveil a specially constructed ballpark in Iowa on Thursday.
The Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees will face off at the baseball field located next to the cornfield where “Field of Dreams” was filmed.
The “MLB at Field of Dreams” event will include a “corn maze” featuring the MLB silhouetted batter logo, and a first-of-its-kind LED lighting system that will illuminate most of the 159 acres of corn fields surrounding the ballpark. Players will also sport special uniforms for the game.
“Field of Dreams” is about a farmer who builds a baseball diamond that attracts the ghosts of baseball icons. Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, Burt Lancaster, James Earl Jones, and Amy Madigan star in the Oscar-nominated sports fantasy drama. If you’d like to stream “Field of Dreams” ahead of the big game (or anytime thereafter), the movie is available on Amazon Prime Video.

“A League of Their Own”
Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, Geena Davis, and Tom Hanks star in this classic sports drama directed by Penny Marshall. Released in 1993, “A League of Their Own” revolves around a fictional all-female baseball team inspired by from the Rockford Peaches, a team in the All-Girls American Professional Baseball League.
If you’re in the mood for a ‘90s cult classic, “The Sandlot” is a good choice. This coming-of-age film centers around a boy who moves to a new neighborhood in the Summer of 1964 and makes friends with a group of young baseball players. Sports might seem like the central theme, but “The Sandlot” is more about friendship and adventures in the sun.

“Major League” is a sports comedy about a former exotic dancer who becomes the owner of the Cleveland Guardians (formerly the Cleveland Indians). The new owner hatches a plan to move the team to Miami by hiring a collective of bad players, which she hopes will drive down ticket sales so the team can relocate. Margaret Whitton, Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, James Gammon, Dennis Haysbert, and Bob Uecker appear in “Major League.”
“Rookie of the Year”
Where to Watch: Amazon Prime
“Rookie of the Year” has a bit of fantasy mixed in with comedy and despite not being embraced by critics, it’s a feel-good somewhat cheesy film that will make you laugh (or at least chuckle). Thomas Ian Nichols stars as Henry Rowengartner, an unskilled 12-year-old Little Leaguer whose dreams of making it to the major leagues come true after he breaks his arm. The break results in Henry gaining incredible arm strength that helps him become the youngest player in MLB history. Gary Busey, John Candy, Dan Hedaya, Albert Hall, and Daniel Stern are among the cast.
