The film's Spirit Awards love fest may not extend to the Oscars. It will likely win some, lose some.
The President and his policies loomed large over the Los Angeles awards show, but his name hardly came up.
Plus, the team behind "Moonlight" was out in full force after picking up stunning six awards at the annual event.
"Moonlight" won the evening with six awards, including the Best Feature statue.
"Moonlight" director Barry Jenkins also won the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay.
Directors, actors and studio heads talk about their goals and hopes for the final ten months of the year.
Shannon wins the award for playing a mother dying of cancer in writer-director Chris Kelly's personal story "Other People."
Jenkins acknowledged directors Andrea Arnold and Kenneth Lonergan, whom he calls "Uncle Kenny," in his acceptance speech.
The award, for the dramatic thriller "Elle," was Huppert's first Independent Spirit nomination and win.
Director Maren Ade: "I'm really happy and proud to stand here as a female director because it's still not normal enough."
