"I was out of line and I was wrong," Smith wrote in a statement. "I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be."
The comedian is set to embark on a massive world tour next month.
The pop star received an Oscar nomination for her song from "King Richard."
This marks the first Oscar win for Smith, who was previously nominated for "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happyness."
The actor is currently shooting a documentary about the invasion in Ukraine.
The 94th Academy Awards are taking place tonight at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
The composer is considered by many to be a frontrunner to win his second Oscar for "Dune."
The ceremony is set to honor the best achievements in film and television writing.
"I hope some last-minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person," the actress wrote. "But hey, that’s how it goes sometimes."
The Oscar for Film Editing is one of eight categories that have been scrubbed from the live telecast.
