Franchise producer Bruckheimer said that while he is prioritizing a different "Pirates" film first, Robbie's spinoff is still in development.
Robbie was set to produce and star in an upcoming franchise installment, written by "Birds of Prey" scribe Christina Hodson.
“Johnny is great for Dior ads and the occasional rock concert,” wrote one manager in an email, “but Mel Gibson status is about right.”
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" producer says that the future of the franchise will be without Depp.
Depp reportedly cost Disney $350,000 after swallowing ecstasy pills and shutting down "Pirates of the Caribbean" filming.
