On the night of September 8, IndieWire hosted a dinner, presented by Canada Goose, for female filmmakers at the Toronto International Film Festival. Marielle Heller, Kasi Lemmons, Julie Delpy, Unjoo Moon, Haifaa Al-Mansour, Lauren Greenfield, and Alma Har’el, were among the celebrated directors who attended.
From documentaries to animated outings, narrative debuts, and even a tear-jerking biopic about the beloved Mr. Rogers, the female filmmakers at this year’s TIFF have bowed some of the buzziest films of the festival. That night, they bonded over their shared experience and talked about what it’s like to experience this world through their own lens.
Speaking before the dinner, IndieWire editor-in-chief Dana Harris stated that sponsor Canada Goose has been “supporting the industry, empowering women and the craft” for over 25 years, almost as long as IndieWire has been striving for that very same goal of “supporting women’s voices.”
The event took place at Toronto’s own The Purman, an event space located in the city’s downtown heart. Watch some highlights from the evening above.
