As the festival circuit struggles to figure out its future, Bailey dropped by Screen Talk to address some pressing issues while viewers tuned in for the live recording.

Screen Talk 291: Cameron Bailey Interviewed About TIFF 2020

It’s been a tough year for film festivals, and it might get tougher very soon: With major festivals from SXSW to Cannes off the calendar, the usually reliable circuit is suddenly cast into disarray, while it remains unclear what form the fall festivals will take. Toronto International Film Festival artistic director and co-head Cameron Bailey is dealing with these questions on a daily basis, as he keeps tabs on films vying for launch dates and sorts through the various practical questions surrounding the prospects of a physical event. For this week’s live episode of Screen Talk, Bailey — a Screen Talk listener — joined hosts Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson to peel back the veil on the challenges he’s facing as he figures out the months ahead. He also answered questions from viewers in the Q&A portion. The trio finished off with some streaming suggestions and shared their thoughts on the late Lynn Shelton.
